Rhodes West Africa Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Rhodes Scholarship 2026, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Nationality & Residence: You must be a citizen of a West African country (e.g., Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Gambia, Senegal, etc.) and have lived in West Africa for at least five of the last ten years.
  • Age Requirement:
    • General applicants: Aged 18–24 by October 1, 2025.
    • Medical, law, or engineering students: Aged up to 25.
    • Late-degree finishers: Aged up to 27, with degree completion on or after October 1, 2024.
  • Academic Excellence: You must hold (or be on track to hold) a First Class Honours or equivalent in your undergraduate studies. For medical-related courses, distinctions in areas like Surgery, Pathology, Paediatrics, or Pharmacology may be accepted.
  • English Proficiency: While IELTS is not required for all, you may need to provide English proficiency proof unless you qualify for a test waiver.
