Fellowship Details & Eligibility

  • Fields: All academic disciplines and creative arts are eligible.

  • Duration: Fellowship duration ranges from two weeks up to one full academic semester.

    • Active researchers from accredited institutions outside the U.S. or independent researchers/artists.

Center for Social Science Innovation (CSSI) Co-Sponsorship

One fellowship each semester receives special co-sponsorship from the CSSI, ideal for social science researchers focused on innovative methodologies such as survey research, multimethod studies, or grant development. While collaborating with a CSSI affiliate is optional, applicants can express interest in CSSI co-sponsorship during their application.

Application Process & Requirements

Applicants must submit their materials online by October 24, 2025, for the Spring 2026 fellowship period (January 20–May 8, 2026). Required documents include:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  • Proposed fellowship start and end dates

  • Research proposal (up to 2,000 words) detailing the project and its relevance to the University of Iowa

  • One-page bibliography related to the proposal

  • Proof of English proficiency

  • Two reference letters (if the applicant does not hold a Ph.D. or terminal degree)
