IHE Delft Water and Development Partnership Scholarships 2025

Fully Funded MSc Opportunities for Water Professionals from MENA, Sahel, and Horn of Africa

The IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, in partnership with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is now accepting applications for a limited number of full and partial scholarships under the Water and Development Partnership Programme.

These scholarships aim to empower talented professionals committed to solving water challenges in the Sahel, Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and the Horn of Africa, by supporting their participation in the MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development at IHE Delft.

IHE Delft Water and Development Partnership Scholarship (Benefits)

Full Scholarships Cover:

  • 100% tuition fees

  • International travel expenses

  • Health insurance

  • Monthly living allowance of €1,220 for accommodation and personal costs during the entire study period

Partial Scholarships:
Applicants with access to co-funding (personal funds, employer support, or external grants) may be eligible for additional financial support. Contact Ineke Melis at i.melis@un-ihe.org to discuss funding options.


IHE Delft Water and Development Partnership Scholarship (Eligible Countries)

Applicants must be nationals of one of the following countries:

  • Middle East: Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Yemen

  • Horn of Africa: Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda

  • Sahel: Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Nigeria

IHE Delft Water and Development Partnership Scholarship (Eligibility Criteria)

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Be admitted to the MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development

  • Reside or work in one of the eligible countries

  • Commit to conducting MSc research in their home country or region on a topic related to a local development project

  • Participate in programme-organized seminars and learning networks

  • Intend to return home or to another priority country after graduation


IHE Delft Water and Development Partnership Scholarship (Required Recommendation Letter)

One of the two required recommendation letters must be from your current employer, and must:

  • Be on official letterhead, dated, and signed

  • Confirm the benefits of your participation to the organization

  • Guarantee re-employment upon graduation

  • Mention any link to a project funded by the Water and Development Partnership Programme

Applications without this specific employer recommendation will not be considered for the scholarship.


IHE Delft Water and Development Partnership Scholarship (English Proficiency Requirement)

  • Proof of English language proficiency must be submitted no later than 1 June 2025.

  • Applicants from Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda are exempt from this requirement.

  • Scholarship Decision Announcement: 1 July 2025


IHE Delft Water and Development Partnership Scholarship (How to Apply)

There is no separate scholarship application form. Once you are academically admitted to the MSc Programme and meet the criteria, you will be automatically considered for this scholarship.

Due to high competition, applicants are strongly encouraged to apply for additional scholarships, such as the Rabbani Scholarship, if eligible.
