Be a full-time scientist working at an African university or NARES (National Agricultural Research and Extension System) institution.
-
Hold a completed Ph.D. at the time of application.
-
Applicants in post-doctoral roles are also eligible.
-
Submit a detailed, innovative research proposal addressing phosphorus management in African agriculture.
Special consideration will be given to projects that align with APNI’s high-priority focus areas:
-
4R Nutrient Stewardship – Matching crop growth dynamics with phosphorus application through improvements in source, rate, timing, or placement.
-
Carbon Farming – Exploring interactions between phosphorus applications and biomass turnover.
-
Soil Health – Investigating P use in residue management, no-till systems, or problem soils (e.g., high P-fixing soils).
-
Precision Farming – Proposing field-scale innovations that tackle P variability and improve management efficiency.
Evidence of collaborative research and partnerships will strengthen your application. Female scientists are strongly encouraged to apply.
APNI Scholarship Program (Required Application Documents)
To complete your application, submit the following documents in English or French through APNI’s online portal:
-
A detailed proposal explaining how the fellowship will advance understanding or implementation of phosphorus management. This should include plans for new experiments, data integration, or travel activities supported by the funds.
-
