IMU Breakout Graduate Fellowship Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the IMU Breakout Graduate Fellowship Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

- Eligible Countries: All developing countries.
- Nomination Process:
- Students cannot apply directly—they must be nominated by a professional mathematician.
- Nominators should have an existing mentoring relationship with the nominee.
- Residency & Citizenship:
- Must be a resident and citizen of a developing country.
- Must either:
- Be pre-accepted into a PhD program in a developing country, or
- Already be enrolled in a doctoral program in a developing country.
- No Age Limit: There are no restrictions on the student’s age.
- Encouragement for Women Applicants: Female mathematicians are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Annual Renewal:
- The fellowship is awarded one year at a time.
- Renewal is based on satisfactory academic progress.
- Funding ceases once the PhD is completed or after four years, whichever comes first.
