Six Ways to Prevent Your PlayStation 5 from Suddenly Shutting Down

Six Ways to Prevent Your PlayStation 5 from Suddenly Shutting Down: Is your PlayStation 5 shutting down on its own? You need to put an end to such behavior, so try some of these suggestions.

Following the purchase of a PS5, several players have experienced their console shutting down during gameplay. Others experience these shutdowns while their console is in Rest Mode. What’s worse is that they appear to occur randomly.

Fortunately, there is a way to resolve this issue and continue enjoying the PS5 without fear of sudden shutdowns.

How to Prevent Your PlayStation 5 From Suddenly Shutting Down

If you’re a member of the minority who experience random shutdowns, it can significantly diminish your enjoyment of the PS5. Therefore, rather than scratching your head or considering returning the console for repair, perform the following troubleshooting procedures.

1. Verify That the PS5’s Power Cable Is Connected Properly.

Before you begin modifying any settings, double-check that the power cable is properly attached.

If the power cord is unsecured, it may cause the power to turn out, resulting in an improper shutdown of your PS5. If the problem persists, it is possible that you are using a damaged power cord and should replace it to determine if the problem is resolved.

2. Plug Your PS5 Into a Power Outlet Directly

Assume you’ve connected the PS5 to a power extension along with other high-power devices. This circumstance may result in the console not receiving sufficient power when it is required, resulting in an improper shutdown.

To resolve this issue, connect the PS5’s power connection directly to the outlet. If this does not work, the problem may be with the outlet. Connect the PS5’s power cable to a different outlet to determine if the issue has been resolved.

3. Update the firmware on the PlayStation 5

Occasionally, you can resolve the random shutdowns by updating your PlayStation 5. Navigate to Settings > Machine > System Software > System Software Update and Settings when your PS5 system is online.

Following that, select Update System Software, followed by Update Using Internet. Then, click Update to initiate the firmware download and installation process.

4. Turn off Rest Mode

If your PS5 begins to shut down during Rest Mode, you may need to disable the option. To turn off Rest Mode, navigate to Settings > System > Power Management.

Nobody knows what is triggering these occasional shutdowns in Rest Mode. Thus, the most effective way to avoid them is to disable the feature entirely. This will prevent the console from entering Rest Mode automatically if you are away for an extended period of time.

5. Disable the HDMI Device Connection
The HDMI Device Link on the PS5 could be causing the premature shutdowns.

To disable this feature, navigate to System > HDMI in the Settings menu. To disable HDMI Device Link, select it and press the X button on your Dual Sense.

6. Rebuild the database on the PS5.
To begin rebuilding the PS5’s database, power off the console. Following that, you must enter Safe Mode by pressing and holding the power button on your console for approximately five seconds. The PS5 will beep twice during this process before entering Safe Mode.

While the system is in rest mode, you cannot use your controller wirelessly, so connect the Dual Sense through a USB-C connection and power it on. Choose Rebuild Database (the fifth option) from the list of possible options and then click OK.

When Should You Contact Sony for Assistance?

If none of the solutions above work, you may be one of the unfortunate few who received a faulty console. Your best bet is to call PlayStation customer care and arrange for repair of your console. Before mailing it back, verify that the PS5 is still covered by the manufacturer’s guarantee and is not physically damaged.

If your PS5 is sporadically shutting down, we hope the troubleshooting techniques outlined above will assist you in resolving the issue. That way, you can resume enjoying your PS5 without fear of it going off at any time. And if it does not work, you can always contact Sony for assistance.
