Eligibility Criteria
The Getty Foundation Fellowships are open to scholars of all nationalities in the arts, social sciences, and humanities.
- Predoctoral Fellowship: Applicants must have advanced to candidacy in their doctoral program by the deadline and expect to complete their dissertation during the fellowship.
- Postdoctoral Fellowship: Open to candidates who earned their PhD after September 1, 2021.
- Scholar Grant: For applicants who earned their PhD before September 1, 2021.
Additional Notes:
- Previous Getty Residential Grant recipients may reapply after a 6-year waiting period.
- Current Getty staff and immediate family members are ineligible.
Selection Process
Applications are reviewed by an expert selection committee based on:
- Relevance to the annual theme (Provenance).
- Originality and potential impact of the research project.
- Applicant’s academic qualifications and alignment with Getty’s resources.
