The Mandela Institute for Development Studies (MINDS) is currently offering its fully funded 2025 MINDS Scholarship Program to outstanding African students who wish to pursue postgraduate studies at top institutions across Africa—outside of their home countries.

Launched in 2017, the MINDS Scholarship for Leadership Development in Africa aims to develop young African leaders with a pan-African vision. The goal is to promote greater unity, cooperation, and socio-economic growth across the continent through education and leadership training.

About the MINDS Scholarship 2025

MINDS Scholarship 2025 Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be a national of an African country and currently reside in an African country
  • Have received formal admission into one or more of the MINDS-preferred institutions (outside your country of residence or citizenship)
  • Have obtained a minimum of 70% average in each subject over the last two years of study
  • Demonstrate strong leadership potential or experience
  • Submit a complete online application with all supporting documents

Scholarship Benefits

The MINDS Scholarship covers:

  • Full or partial tuition fees
  • Accommodation and meals
  • One return flight ticket for the duration of your study
  • A fixed monthly stipend for living expenses

Required Documents

Applicants must prepare and submit the following documents (in PDF format, each under 2MB):

  1. Passport bio/data page
  2. Certified academic transcript for the past two years
  3. Official university acceptance letter that includes:
    • Your name
    • Degree title
    • Start date
    • Duration of the program
  4. Study visa or permit (optional, but recommended)
  5. Updated CV (maximum 4 pages)
  6. Two reference letters (maximum 3 pages each), discussing:
    • Your integrity
    • Leadership capabilities
    • Commitment to Africa’s development
