Deakin University Scholarship (Eligibility Criteria)

To be eligible for Deakin’s Postgraduate Research Scholarships, applicants must:

  • Be proficient in English.
  • Be a domestic or international student enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program at Deakin.
  • Not be receiving another equivalent scholarship or financial support that exceeds 75% of the value of the Deakin stipend.
  • Have completed at least four years of tertiary education and achieved a first-class Honours degree or equivalent.

For Doctoral Applicants:

  • Must have completed a research project (thesis) equivalent to at least 25% of a full-time year of study at Level 8 or 9 of the Australian Qualifications Framework with a grade equivalent to 70% or higher.
  • Alternatively, hold a Master’s by Research degree in a related field.

For Master’s by Research Applicants:

  • Must have completed a substantial research component, with a grade equivalent to 65% or above.

To apply for the Deakin University Scholarships:

  3. Prepare Your Documents:
    • Resume/CV
    • Academic transcripts
    • Proof of previous research experience or degree
    • List of publications and bibliographic details
    • Evidence of identification and citizenship
    • Proof of English proficiency
    • Two referee reports
    • Research proposal (follow proposal guidelines)
  4. Apply Online:
    Submit your application via the Deakin online portal. Confirm whether your faculty requires an Expression of Interest (EOI) prior to submitting your application.
  5. Mail Certified Documents:
    Send certified copies of required documents by post. Certification must be done by authorized personnel such as:

    • Justice of the Peace
    • Notary Public
    • Australian Consular or Diplomatic Officer
    • Employee of the Commonwealth or the Australian Trade Commission outside Australia
